Our Story

Welcome to the Alpena Mixed Beach Volleyball League. Our league was founded in 2002 by Jim Johnston and sponsored by Huron Distributors of Alpena, Michigan.

Our format is that of a sports social group. Our mission statement is to:

Promote the joy of volleyball and fairness in competition in all activities that combine exercise with fun and friendship.

The two sets of courts, six situated on the beautiful shores of Thunder Bay on Lake Huron at Mich-e-ke-wis Park and four adjacent to the Aplex Alpena Events Complex were build and are maintained solely with private donations and league contributions.

In October of 2015 we become a non-profit 501 (c) (4) entity. Our active steering committee are seeking donations and making improvements to our facilities annually.

Our courts are available to the public free of charge and are used throughout the season. Everyday community members, young and old, as well as tourists from around the world, enjoying the courts while playing in organized events, leagues and pickup games.

Thank you to all of our 2019/2020 season contributors!
